Step 1. Provision and connect a HMI Device
Device in iRis Cloud represents HMI(Human-Machine-Interface) devices connected to the platform. Devices publish telemetry and attributes and can receive control commands.
In this section, you will create a new device in iRis Cloud and test its connection to the platform by publishing sample telemetry data to verify successful communication and data processing.
Step 1.1 Create a HMI Device
Section titled “Step 1.1 Create a HMI Device”Create a HMI Device that will act as the telemetry source for the platform.
Project Design and Device Transfer
Section titled “Project Design and Device Transfer”- Launch the iRis Developer application.
- Create a new project.
- Specify the project name and select the target model.
- Register the address values to be transmitted to the Cloud in the Symbol list.
- Use the Project → Symbol menu for registration.
- Data cannot be sent to iRis Cloud unless it is registered as a Symbol.
- To automatically include registered symbols in the Cloud transmission data, enable the Cloud checkbox.
- Symbols can be registered manually even if this is not enabled.
- Configure the Symbol data for transmission to iRis Cloud.
- Select the data to be sent through the IoT → Cloud menu.
- You can create groups using Add Group and add Symbols to the list via the Add Variable button.
- You can manage registered symbol data using the Control and History checkboxes.
- Control: If enabled, you can control the address value from iRis Cloud.
- History: If enabled, iRis Cloud will record and store the address value.
- Transfer the project to the HMI Device.
- Navigate to Trans → Transfer Project to initiate the transfer.
- Once ready, select the target HMI Device for the project transfer.
- Click the Connect button to scan for available HMI Devices.
- When a connection is established, HMI Device details will appear in the Information section. (Please note the Product Verification Code at this stage.)
- Click OK to proceed.
- Click the Send button to transmit the project data to the HMI Device.
Symbol Data Types
Section titled “Symbol Data Types”The Type and Size you assign to a Symbol in iRis Developer determine how the value is stored in iRis Cloud. Each iRis Developer type maps to exactly one iRis Cloud value type.
| iRis Developer Type | Size | iRis Cloud value type | Example value stored in iRis Cloud |
|---|---|---|---|
DEC | 1Bit | boolean | true, false |
DEC, UDEC, HEX, BCD | 16Bit and larger | integer | 26, -1013 |
FLOAT | 32Bit | double | 26.5 |
DOUBLE | 64Bit | double | 1013.25 |
ASCII | — | string | RUN, E-102 |
Why the Value Type Matters
Section titled “Why the Value Type Matters”The value type determines how the data point can be used on a dashboard:
- boolean — on/off widgets such as Single Switch and Led Indicator
- integer, double — charts, gauges, Knob Control, threshold alarm rules (
>,<) - string — Value Card, tables, text-matching alarm rules (
equals,contains)
Assign FLOAT or DOUBLE to any value that has a decimal point. Sending a decimal value as DEC may alter it or prevent it from reaching iRis Cloud. A decimal value received as integer in iRis Cloud is rounded.
Registering Device on iRis Cloud
Section titled “Registering Device on iRis Cloud”A HMI Device needs a license to send data to iRis Cloud. When you add a HMI Device, an access token that has never been used with a license is offered the 1-month free trial; otherwise you enter a license code. See Register a License to a HMI Device for the details.
- Navigate to the Entities → Devices menu.
- Click + and select Add new device.
- Enter the HMI Device Name.
- Enter the Access token and click Validate.
- Enter the Product Verification Code obtained during the project transfer from iRis Developer.
- Access tokens must be unique. “Access token is already in use.” means the token belongs to another HMI Device.
- Check the license message:
- “A 1-month free trial will be applied” — the License code field is optional. Leave it empty to use the free trial.
- “This access token has already used the free trial” — enter a License code and click Validate. Licenses received into your account are offered under Available licenses.
- Click Add. The HMI Device appears in the list, and you can monitor its connectivity status. The State changes to Active once the HMI Device sends data.
- Open the HMI Device details and check the Latest telemetry tab for the incoming data.
The device is successfully created and registered in iRis Cloud.
Step 1.2 Verify HMI Device Connectivity
Section titled “Step 1.2 Verify HMI Device Connectivity”iRis Cloud provides built-in connectivity examples that allow you to send telemetry on behalf of a HMI Device using various messaging protocols. This makes it easy to test connectivity, validate credentials, and confirm that incoming data is processed correctly.
- If the state value in the HMI Device list is displayed as ‘activity’, the HMI Device is connected.
- The HMI Device is registered if the value changes on the ‘Device Details Page -> Latest Telemetry’ tab.
Verify the result
Section titled “Verify the result”After successful telemetry publication:
- The HMI Device status changes from Inactive to Active.
- The published telemetry appears in the HMI Device’s Latest telemetry tab.
